The inaugural Gran Fondo Hincapie-Boise brought hundreds of cyclists to the mountain routes and gravel roads. It may have been a bit (or a LOT) warm, but the sweat and grit made for a memorable ride. From George and Lance sightings to Kristin Armstrong’s tenacity and every rider’s determination, the first annual Gran Fondo Hincapie-Boise is one we will never forget.
Sure, the Gran Fondo Hincapie-Boise experience is about the ride, but more than anything, it’s about the entire experience. The weekend began early Saturday morning in Cecil D. Andrus Park, where riders picked up their packet, rider guide, gear, and fondo wine. Later Saturday evening we gathered at the Hincapie tent to cheer on the pros as they raced in the Boise Twilight Criterium.
It started hot, and it ended hot. Riders for the 15-mile, 50-mile, or 80-mile routes lined up behind cycling celebrities George Hincapie, Lance Armstrong, Kristin Armstrong and members of the Hincapie Cycling Society.
Riders crossed the finish line with gravel-dusted smiles across their faces. Then they, along with family and friends, celebrated at the Family Festival out on the lawn of Cecil D. Andrus Park. After the Festival, fans walked down to nearby 10 Barrel Brewing for a live filming of “THEMOVE” podcast.
