2020 Safety Info

GRAN FONDO HINCAPIE-GREENVILLE

October 23, 2021

Our top priority has always been to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers, staff, and members of the local community, and we also want to deliver the Ultimate Cycling Experience. Whether you’ve already signed up or are still on the fence, we wanted to share some of the changes that you can expect.

2020 SAFETY PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOLS

Mandatory Mask Zones

We ask that all attendees, volunteers, and staff do their part to help ensure each other’s safety. This will require not only social distancing when possible, but wearing masks in designated Mask Zones. Mask Zones will include but are not limited to: packet pickup/registration, start corral, rest stops, and vendor/food areas of the post-ride festival. Ample signage will be staged around the event area and our fantastic volunteers and staff will be happy to assist with any questions.

Extended Packet Pickup

To adhere to proper social distancing practices, we will be offering an extended packet pickup schedule during the week leading up to Gran Fondo Hincapie - Greenville.

Schedule and Locations

On-Site Registration

On-Site Registration will be available this year on Friday, October 22nd and Saturday, October 23rd.

However, we strongly encourage riders to pre-register to avoid waiting in lines and minimizing close contact.

Start Corral

For the 2020 Gran Fondo Hincapie – Greenville all riders will start in waves going off in a staggered format. While this is different from how we have started our events in the past, we feel it is the best solution to maintain social distance and keep everyone safe.

Our team is hard at work finalizing a new start corral plan that will allow for proper social distancing practices. Please see our video above for an explanation and demonstration as to how the start corrals will work.

Rest Stops

As rest stops are a highlight of any Gran Fondo Hincapie event, we are putting in a large amount of time and effort to ensure we deliver the same quality of service while focusing first on the safety of all riders and volunteers. Individually packaged food, plastic barriers for the volunteers, and designated in/out lanes are just a few of the changes we have made, and we will be providing more detailed information on new rest stop procedures in September.

Minimizing Contact

In order to allow all of our participants, staff and volunteers to practice social distancing, we are eliminating gathering points throughout the event weekend. We encourage everyone to stay safe and be conscious of others in potentially crowded areas.

Spectators and Guests

Given the challenges that we currently face with COVID-19, we will be unable to welcome families and friends of riders in 2020. While we are disappointed, we are following all CDC, USA Cycling, and local department of health guidelines and feel that this decision is in the best interest of the overall safety of our guests, volunteers, and staff. Family and friends of riders will still be able to track the progress of their loved ones in real time through the Gran Fondo Hincapie App, and we look forward to welcoming back Fondo spectators in 2021.

Hincapie Warehouse Sale

We are sad to announce that we will be unable to host our Annual Warehouse Sale in 2020. This decision was made in collaboration with local health officials with the safety of our staff, volunteers, and attendees in mind. We hope to bring this event back next year.

The After Party

Due to the size of our space we have decided to cancel the After Party at Hotel Domestique this year. Although this legendary post-Fondo event won't be happening this year we have already begun dreaming up plans for our 10th Anniversary After Party in 2021!
