Cycling can be easy to take for granted. We probably all know the feeling of dreading that early morning workout or weekend climb, but for one reason or another, you get the job done. Maybe you’re training for a race, maybe you’re trying to keep your health in check, or maybe you just want a few hours to yourself. Regardless of your reasons, the opportunity to get on a bike is a blessing that many people are not fortunate enough to have. Among those people are the nearly 500 children living with cancer and chronic illnesses who attend Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special, each year.

Bike4Chai is a premier cycling event that generates incredible donations for Chai Lifeline, a leading children’s health support network which provides seriously ill children with an unforgettable, medically-supervised summer experience at its flagship program, Camp Simcha. For two weeks, children typically confined to hospital rooms or subjected to constant difficulties are able to experience fun, friendship, and hope. The Hincapie family is proud and honored to be a part of the Bike4Chai experience, an annual event that has raised almost $50 million in just 10 years.

The Event

The 2019 Bike4Chai event will begin with a kickoff party on Tuesday, August 13, 2019. Riders will be able to pick up their Bike4Chai gear and fuel up with pastries before the ride begins Wednesday morning. The 180-mile ride is broken into two stages: 100 miles on day 1 and the remaining 80 miles on day 2. Don’t let those numbers scare you— fully catered rest stops with carefully curated menus are placed every 20 miles to maintain your vitality and energy.

As if that isn’t enough, knowing that a BBQ feast is waiting for you a mile before the finish line will help keep you locked in. After everyone has caught up and enjoyed the cookout, the group will be cheered on by the children of Camp Simcha Special as everyone crosses the finish line into the camp. A heartwarming and joyful end to a challenging and important journey that has already raised over $3 million.

“Bike4Chai brings out the very best in people,” says Rabbi Simcha Scholar, Chai Lifeline’s Chief Executive Officer. “With every mile they ride, participants help children facing serious medical challenges and their families access crucial programs and services that enable them to find joy and hope in everyday life.”

The Bike4Chai Kit

Hincapie Sportswear is exceptionally proud to be the exclusive supplier of Bike4Chai’s cycling kits. Since the very first ride almost 10 years ago, our teams have worked together each year to supply Bike4Chai riders with custom kits from our Velocity collection. The Velocity collection is popular amongst a broad range of riders, which is one of the reasons why it is the perfect choice for events that include beginner, experienced, and professional riders. Constructed from Lycra fabric, the velocity collection is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable enough to get you through the 180-mile ride without giving it a second thought. That way you can focus on the ride, the catered food, and most importantly, the thankful children patiently waiting at Camp Simcha Special.
